Monday, July 6th, marked 62 years since Malawi declared independence from the United Kingdom — the moment a British Protectorate known as Nyasaland became the nation the world now knows as the "Warm Heart of Africa."

It's a history worth knowing. From colonial rule to a hard-fought independence movement, from a decades-long presidency to a democratic constitution, Malawi's story has been shaped by people who refused to stop believing in something better for their country.
And that spirit hasn't gone anywhere.

For more than two decades, Orant Charities has had the privilege of working alongside the people of Malawi. We've poured into their clinics, their schools, their fields, and their communities. Every year on this day, we're reminded of why that work matters, and why it's worth continuing.

Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women in Malawi. Tragically, most of those deaths are preventable.

The biggest barrier isn't the disease itself — it's access. Many women in rural Malawi have never been screened, never received information about their risk, and live hours away from the nearest clinic.

That's what we're working to change. Our teams go out into communities to bring screenings, education, and care directly to women. With the HPV vaccine, communities can prevent cancer before it has the chance to form.

Right now, we have 1,000 HPV vaccines sitting in storage. We're eager to use them across our communities but have just 3 months until they expire.
