Thursday's Thoughts from David...

This Sunday I will be preaching on my favorite verse, what I consider my “Life Verse” - Jeremiah 29:11.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

What plans do you have for your life?
For this year?
For this week?
For today?
For the next 15 minutes?

Has your “Plan A” ever turned into a “Plan B” which then turned into a less than desirable “Plan C”?
Me too…

But, what if God’s plans for you are actually “Plan Q?”
What if our Plans A, B, C, and D were actually all a part of God’s infinite “Plan Q?”

Does that change how you think about your future?

The fact that God has a plan, is working the plan, and knowing that said “plan” is being worked out gives me exactly what God said it would… “Hope for my Future!”

I do not know where you are today in your spiritual journey on this earth…
But…
I do know this… “You have a future with God and subsequently that gives you all the hope you need for today…”

Those are my thoughts for this Thursday!

Laugh often and Fear not!
David!

An Ode to Empty Nesters: A Bittersweet Symphony

An church newsletter article I wrote to Mountain View Presbyterian Church... A special thank you to all of you who have loved, cared for, supported and encouraged my children, Faith and Joshua as they get ready to launch from the "nest" into the world! We love you!

An Ode to Empty Nesters: A Bittersweet Symphony

Oh, hallowed halls of silence, once filled with chaos and glee,
Where Faith and Joshua's laughter echoed, wild and free.
Now Grand Canyon calls one, and Valencia beckons the other,
Leaving Julie and I to ponder: what's life without the pitter-patter?

Farewell to midnight raids on the fridge, and doors that never close,
Goodbye to piles of laundry that mysteriously grow and grow.
No more "Dad, I need gas money!" or "Mom, where's my favorite shirt?"
Our free time may be fuller, but our hearts? They kind of hurt.

Remember when we prayed for quiet, just one moment of peace?
Be careful what you wish for, they say – now silence never cease.
The house so clean and tidy, everything in its right place,
Yet somehow, we miss the clutter, the energy, the race.

To Faith at Grand Canyon, may your sophomore year soar,
Like the majestic walls that frame nature's mighty floor.
And Joshua in Valencia, as you embark on Spanish shores,
May your freshman journey open exciting new doors.

We've traded school runs for Face-Time, packed lunches for care packages,
Our roles have shifted, yet our love knows no shortages.
Into Jesus' hands we place you, our precious son and daughter,
Trusting His guidance and protection, no matter land or water.

Julie, my dear, shall we dance in our underwear?
Or weep into your coffee? Perhaps do both, if we dare!
For this nest, once bustling, now eerily still,
Holds memories like treasures, our hearts to fill.

So here's to September 6th, when our nest empties out,
A new chapter begins, with both whimper and shout.
We'll miss you terribly, yet beam with pride so bright,
Knowing we've raised you to ascend to new heights.

To all empty nesters, let's raise a glass (or a tissue),
To the joy and the pain, the laughter, the miss-you.
Our children may leave, but they're never truly gone,
In our hearts they remain, as life's symphony plays on.

(In two weeks’ time, September 6th, Julie and I will join the club of empty-nesters. Thank you MVPC for your love, support and encouragement over the last nine years in helping shape and form Faith and Joshua into the amazing young people they have become! We love you MVPC! We love you Faith and Joshua!) - David and Julie Dendy!
