In this video, first posted last year, I refer to #AffirmativeAction as “indirect reparations.” This week, the US #SupremeCourt decided that even indirect educational #reparations are too much, and effectively ended affirmative action. To further twist that knife in an already open wound, #ClarenceThomas, a recipient of affirmative action himself, filed a concurring opinion, which he read aloud in court. He wrote that the constitution (which labeled black people as 3/5 human) is “colorblind.” It’s hard to believe that a nation that for 150 years made it illegal to educate Black people, then segregated them from many of their public and private institutions of learning for another 70, does not see the need to invest in the education of the decedents of that legacy.
