The Houston People's Budget is in full swing with lots of ways to get involved in the coming weeks.

We're at Commissioners Court (yet again) reminding them that their cuts and hiring freezes are going to have bad consequences for their constituents.

And that we'd not be having this conversation had three of them not passed raises that they had no way to pay for, and couldn't afford.

In the past few months, violent and harmful budgets that prioritize police and military spending over social services have been forced through by Congress and by Houston city council. Harris County should be our last line of defense, but County Commissioners are instead trying to cut social services and steal from county worker's pensions to pay for a historic police salary raise. Public health, libraries, and pollution control are all on the chopping block.
