At Cowgirls nightclub in north Houston, multiple people were detained after an officer was assaulted and a firearm was discharged in a large crowd.
Houston Police responded to the nightclub on the North Freeway and found about 500 people in the parking lot and another 500 inside. Police said someone in the crowd discharged a firearm, causing people to run in multiple directions, including across the street to a nearby gas station where another crowd formed.
The Fire Marshal's Office shut down the nightclub, and Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies and Harris County Constable Precinct 4 deputies assisted Houston police in bringing the situation under control.
No injuries were reported.
A motorcycle rider was flown by Life Flight to a hospital following a crash on South Main in Highlands last night.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating what led up to the crash, and the rider is expected to survive.
A man in his 20s was shot and killed during an argument outside a shopping center on South Kirkwood in west Houston.
According to the Houston Police Department, the victim and suspect were believed to be acquaintances when they became involved in an argument during which the victim was shot. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The suspect remained at the location and waited for officers to arrive.
The investigation is ongoing.
