Mawazo Academy is rooted in the belief that the Earth is inherently good and that sustainable living is not just a nice buzzword but a complete way of life. Our mission is to nurture a generation that is connected to the land, knowledgeable about sustainable practices, and inspired by the beauty and abundance of nature.

My second year teaching I started a garden club for the students. There was an issue with students getting in trouble after school with law enforcement. So I asked them if money was not an issue what would they want to do. They said they wanted to grow their own food. I went to my Prinicpal at the time and she gave me zero support. I paid for most of the supplies out of my own pocket. I went around the community and received an in-kind donation of soil from on South Presa St. if it wasn’t for their support, we would not have been able to obtain self sufficiency. We only grew onions and leeks, but they grew. And as they grew, I started to see students who were battling anxiety and shyness come out of their shell.

I am committed to global education. I am dedicated to ensuring the success of children around the world. I am a lifelong learner…I’ve literally been in school all my life 😂.

I graduate with my second Masters this May. I have completed a Fulbright fellowship. I’ve taught in classrooms in the US, Latin America, and Africa. This ain’t play play.

My mother is also an educator, we have some legacy in the game. For those who have just joined the conversation surrounding conscious education, welcome. And I thank you for walking with me as I share my experiences.
