As a Community Climate Action Leader, my intention was to create an ecology sanctuary as an endangered species project, I have been growing host butterfly milkweed in preparation for Project Wingspan/Monarch Waystation at Nine Mile Creek Native Plant Demonstration Garden in Valley Park to recover, restore, and repurpose the site. My Capstone Project was in synchrony with the City of Hopkins Sustainability Initiatives.

On Friday, May 23, I planted six host butterfly milkweed plants in the Monarch Waystation plot, inside landscape cages to protect the from rabbits and other possible foragers. Returning the next day, Saturday, May 24, it was discovered that all six plants have been removed by an interloper, a perpetrator and a theft. Without any suspect other than those who already have plots at the Community Gardens, my effort has been ruined. With the knowledge that someone in south Hopkins frequenting the Community Gardens believes the native plant garden is a free nursery, I will not continue the project at that side.

This is a community alert message about theft of property at Community Gardens in Valley Park.
