Don’t be fooled by the tranquility. There’s chaos beneath and beyond. (That came out so conspiratorial and I was aiming for meditative. I’m sticking to simple one liners next time).

A tent to ride out a storm

We camped at Bahia Honda State Park for the night to test a tent we’re hoping to use on a longer trip. The weather said windy at 77 degrees. Perfect. Until it wasn’t.

It rained. Hard. Not the soothing kind of rain that lulls you to sleep; think big angry drops to match the howling wind. It was intimidating; our tent did all sorts of bending and shaking, doing its best to free itself from the 6 inch nail pegs we anchored it in.

Result: our tent did awesome! It took in some water but nothing catastrophic we can’t live with. There’s no dramatic sunrise to sip our coffee with that morning but the empty beach more than made up for it.

Not for always.

We are having a heated discussion on what life would be like if the sun decided to one day just stop showing up(like a co worker going awol) and “cease to exist” is not an acceptable path forward.
