I still cannot believe that I'll be competing in the Inspirational Speaking Finals for Speaker Slam! This year’s theme is BRAVE

Every year instead of doing resolutions I create a yearly theme as a way to anchor in my intentions for the upcoming year. For 2024 I made this The Year of Being. And when I asked myself who I wanted to be this year the first thing I said was a professional speaker. So I set out on a quest to become a speaker & now that's leading me to the Grand Slam stage in November!

The 8th annual Grand Slam is the showdown where the year's best speakers compete for the prestigious title of "Inspirational Speaker of the Year" and a grand prize package worth up to $50,000 with a cash prize of $5000.

Out of all the speakers that competed this year globally, I am 1 of 14 speakers that have this opportunity.

Now I know many of you can’t make it to Toronto for the live event but luckily for you they’ve got a livestream option. I’d love to have as many of you as possible cheering me on via the livestream.

And if you happen to be in the greater Toronto area and would like to come support me live I’d so appreciate that!

The event will be held at the CBC Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, Canada. Use the code TEAMHALL to get a special discount and come support me and sit in my cheering squad! (Discount code only applies to general admission ticket and not the livestream)

Vulnerable share alert…

This year has already been one of the most transformative years of my life. I started 2024 off by investing in my health and getting the gastric sleeve procedure.

Right before surgery I was 282 lbs (just shy of my heaviest weight of 286) My whole life I’ve always “carried my weight well” and when I told people that I was 282 most didn’t believe me but numbers don’t lie.

I have always struggled with my weight and body image and it’s been my kryptonite all my life. I’ve never felt super comfortable in my skin.

But that is beginning to change. I’m a little more than 3 months post op and have been making some massive changes in my life. I’ve been prioritizing my health and getting up 3-4x a week at 4:30am to hit the gym.

I recently invested in personal training and have been working with a trainer 2x a week now for about 6 weeks. Today we had our second check in and I couldn’t believe the progress.

It’s surreal to see the side by side comparison. And I’m so grateful that I said yes to myself and made the choice to have this surgery.

Weight loss surgery isn’t a quick fix (yes the weight does come off pretty quickly in the beginning) BUT I’m having to make some serious lifestyle changes because I know that if I want this to be sustainable I have to put in the work.

So far the gym has taught me that strength comes with time. The gym is a very humbling place. Weight loss and body building is so much more than just numbers. It’s identity changes, belief breaking and a whole lot of mindset work.

It takes repetition after repetition. And with every new day a recommitment to myself to continue down this path of healthy habits. This year has already taught me that the life I want isn’t waiting for me inside my comfort zone. So every day I wake up and make a conscious choice to get uncomfortable and it’s in this place of uncomfortability that I am finding tremendous growth!
