Yes the fancy proposals are cool and get a lot of attention. Yes posting the honeymoon pictures on IG and having everybody comment with “goals” makes you feel good, I get it.
If there is one thing I wish just one person would’ve told me before I got married was that this was going to absolutely be the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life.
It’s not a 9-5 where you can clock out after a 8 hour day, it’s all day long.
It’s not a fling that you can stop responding to when she is aggravating, you have to get in the same bed at night.
When it gets hard, I try to remind myself “if it was easy, everybody would do it”. There is a reason why the divorce rate is so high, especially in the black community.
So fellas that read this and please internalize it. ITS GOING TO BE TOUGH. Doesn’t matter how beautiful she is (mine is FINE). Doesn’t matter how smart she is (mine has 2 degrees). Doesn’t matter if she is a great mother (mine is the best). She is going to aggravate the S**T out of you some days. And it’s on those days that you are being tested to see if your have the endurance.
Just ask yourself these two questions… When you are 80-90 years old. Are you going to be more proud of the fact that you endured and didn’t quit and made this world a better place by running the marathon till death do you part? Or are you going to be proud that you gave up for a quick fix and damaged the framework for not only your life BUT those lives that you raised. It’s a big deal, don’t be soft.
