πŸŒ€ Hurricane Season Officially Starts Today.

The strongest storms don’t create tree defects β€” they expose the ones that were already there.

Every year, we see mature trees fail because of hidden decay, poor structure, overextended limbs, codominant stems, root issues, or years of deferred pruning. Many of these risks can be identified before a storm ever enters the Gulf.

Now is the time to assess your property’s canopy, not when a storm is three days away.

At Tree West, our ISA Certified Arborists help property owners, HOAs, and managers identify potential hazards before they become costly emergencies.

Hurricane season isn’t just about preparing for wind.

It’s about understanding which trees are prepared to withstand it.

πŸŒ€ Hurricane Season Is Here β€” Is Your Property Ready?

One of the most overlooked ways to protect your property before a storm hits? Your trees.

Healthy, well-maintained trees are far more resilient in high winds. Neglected ones become the problem. Here's what every SWFL homeowner and property manager should be doing right now:

βœ… Get an arborist inspection. Not all risk is visible. Dead wood, weak branch unions, and root issues can lead to failure even on trees that look fine from the outside.

βœ… Remove dead wood and hazardous limbs. Dead branches don't need hurricane-force winds to come down β€” get them out before the season starts.

βœ… Don't over-trim. Heavy cutting actually weakens a tree's structure. Storm prep pruning should be strategic, not severe.

βœ… Clear vegetation from buildings. Trees in contact with rooflines and gutters can cause serious damage even without a direct failure.

βœ… Know your high-risk species. Laurel Oaks, Australian Pines, and certain palms are known to perform poorly in high winds β€” especially near structures.

At Tree West, our ISA Certified Arborist team offers complimentary property walks to assess risk and help you prioritize before the season gets going.
