Fi****ms Safety for Su***de Prevention: Practical Guidance for Health Professionals
Are you a social worker, mental health professional, healthcare provider, or peer support specialist looking to strengthen your understanding of firearm safety and su***de prevention? Join us for this valuable training designed to improve culturally informed conversations around lethal means safety while earning continuing education credit.
In the United States, fi****ms are involved in approximately 55% of all su***de deaths and remain the leading method of su***de. While healthcare and helping professionals are encouraged to engage in lethal means safety counseling with individuals at risk, many have limited exposure to fi****ms, firearm culture, or veteran culture. This training is designed to build knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to support those important conversations.
Topics Include:
• Su***de risk and su***de risk management
• Veteran culture and its relevance to su***de prevention
• Firearm culture and responsible firearm ownership
• Safe firearm storage and locking devices
• Legal considerations regarding firearm transfers
• Practical, culturally informed approaches to lethal means counseling
Hands-On Learning Opportunity
Participants will have the opportunity to see and handle a variety of firearm safety devices and locking mechanisms. Instructors will provide hands-on demonstrations of how common firearm locks are properly installed and used, helping attendees better understand safe storage practices and how to discuss them effectively with clients and patients.
