TCNJ Bonner Institute

A group of Bonners headed to Boston, Massachusetts during spring break, where they visited museums, took a local walking tour of Roxbury, met with Simmons University’s Bonner Program and volunteered with local nonprofits Cradles to Crayons and Daily Table! 🫶

Last week, our senior cohort returned from an exciting and unforgettable 8-day trip to Puerto Rico that combined meaningful community service with cultural immersion and bonding experiences. 🇵🇷🫶

The seniors engaged in hands-on service with APRODEC, an organization that seeks to promote sustainable economic development while empowering local communities. Bonners assisted in the nonprofit’s efforts to repurpose an abandoned tactical command complex located in a former naval station into an eco-tourism center. 

In addition to service, the attendees participated in thrilling activities, including night kayaking in a bioluminescent bay, hiking in the El Yunque rainforest and exploring the lively streets of San Juan! 

“This trip was an amazing capstone experience that allowed me to put all the common commitments into action,” said Bonner Vinisha Patel. “The story behind our service and the impact of our community partnerships is something that I will take with me after graduation.”

The first few days of the New Orleans trip have been very busy! We have had some great experiences in the French Quarter such as a scavenger hunt near Bourbon street, eating beignets at Cafe Du Monde, and spending time with friends in Jackson Square. We also visited the New Orleans Jazz Museum. Tonight we will be going to a Mardi Gras parade. Stay tuned for more updates about our service!
