We are having a great Spring Break camp, partnering with Snapology and the Rosehill Community Center! Our campers have mastered the basics of TinkerCADand are becoming more and more creative each day. Today we'll be learning about articulation and how to create designs with moving parts.

Our Intermediate 3D-Printing students killed it last week with their final project, birdhouses! These were the largest and most complex designs these students have ever created, and took into account what type of bird it was for (size, shape, open or closed front, size of entry hole, etc) as well as the need for drainage/ventilation holes, and the ability to clean out the old nest at the end of each nesting season. Their designs came out amazing, and we hope they will get to enjoy seeing the birds move in!

We have made the difficult decision to take down our website: www.the-steam-engine.com is no longer active. While the website helped us get our name out in the community when we were first starting out, we've now transitioned to working in partnership with Rosehill Community Center for our classes and doing most of our advertising through Facebook community groups and our contact list of past students. So don't be alarmed if you can't reach our website anymore - we are still around and excited to continue serving the south Snohomish county community!

We still have spots available in our Spring Break camp! You can sign up for all day (Amusement Park Engineering with Snapology in the mornings, 3D-Printing with the STEAM Engine in the afternoons), or just the mornings. We hope to see you there!

If you have a teenager who's interested in coding and electronics, we have the perfect class for them! In Circuits & Coding, we'll build and program a different Arduino circuit together each week.

In Part 1 (April), students will learn to make circuits with different sensors and motors each week, culminating in putting those circuits together during the final class to make a small robot car. In Part 2 (May), students will complete a series of smaller projects: a theremin (musical instrument), color-changing infinity mirror, pulse monitor, and study timer. The classes are beginner friendly, and should also be engaging for students who've done a bit of coding but not specifically Arduino.

Classes will be from 5-6pm on Wednesdays at the Rosehill Community Center in Mukilteo. The combined price for both classes is $345, which includes a $100 Arduino kit that students will get to keep (as well as all other project supplies). You are also welcome to sign up for just Part 1 to start with, and make sure your teen likes it before they commit to Part 2 (even though we know they'll love it!).

You can sign up at https://anc.apm.activecommunities.com/cityofmukilteorec/activity/search?onlineSiteId=0&activity_select_param=2&activity_keyword=Circuits&viewMode=list or stop by Rosehill in person!

The parts are in for the first project of our Intermediate 3D-Printing class: Nameplates! After making a nameplate for themselves, students who finished early were able to make more nameplates to give their teachers, parents and friends. We love the way building makerspace skills also nurtures kids' impulse towards generosity!

We are excited to be collaborating with Snapology to bring Mukilteo kids an exciting, hands-on spring break camp! At this full day camp, kids ages 8-13 will spend the mornings working on Amusement Park Engineering projects with Snapology, and the afternoons learning 3D-printing with The STEAM Engine. Our 3D-printing afternoons will lead students through the process of designing name keychains, jewelry, fidget spinners, toy monsters, cam toys, and more. Everyone is welcome, no prior tech experience required!

We had a great first week of 3D-Printing for Kids! Last Wednesday our students designed their own Toy Monsters from sketch to 3D-model. Yesterday, they were excited to receive their designs in the flesh...uh...plastic. This week we'll be printing their custom fidget spinner designs, and our grand finale will be maze toys. We are so excited to see our students creativity come to life!
