It’s been a sad day for the aviation industry. Although Spirit Airlines served as the punchline for various jokes, provided content for many questionable viral videos, and was unmistakable in the sky with their unprecedented yellow paint job, they were more than most people saw.

Spirit, as we knew them yesterday, began flying back in 1992. Before that, the company dates back to 1983 when it was known as Charter One Airlines.

It wasn’t too long ago that Spirit was turning one of the best profits in the industry. They were also known for being one of the best places to work, with one of the best pilot contracts.

Today, we wish all of the thousands of former Spirit employees the best in their future careers, and we want them to know that the aviation community supports them.

It’s easy to look at headlines and only see the outcome, but the reality of holding the line in air traffic control is a weight most people will never comprehend.
