CEF is the first in our spotlight series of student and local organizations involved with Durham!
Community Empowerment Fund (CEF) is a non-profit organization run by students. Its mission is to sustain transitions out of homelessness and poverty by providing financial services and relationships between members and volunteers. CEF also develops leadership skills in its volunteers.
Claire Yin (T’ 22) is currently taking the house course, Addressing Poverty in Durham, which gives students tools of financial counseling so that they can volunteer with CEF. She says that “One of the most precious things about CEF is the strong personal relationships with the members that you’re bound to form as you work together towards accomplishing their goals”!
