SoCal Substitute Union.
Unions fulfill a critical function in protecting workers' rights by offering a collective voice to advocate for fair compensation, safe working environments, and job security. They negotiate with employers on behalf of employees, ensuring workplace standards are maintained and workers are treated with respect. Unions also provide legal assistance, protection against unwarranted terminations, and strive to enhance working conditions, thereby ensuring workers' rights are upheld and respected.

Embodying the change you wish to see worldwide, as Mahatma Gandhi said, we recognize that individually, we are vulnerable, but collectively, we are empowered. To protect the rights of substitute employees within school districts, we must unite and establish a collective entity. We, the certified employees, are frequently viewed as disposable. We possess the ability to drive change. The existing system is dysfunctional.
Unionizing can be a powerful way to ensure that workers have a collective voice, helping to protect jobs from being undermined by the use of temporary or disposable labor. By standing together, workers can negotiate better wages, benefits, and working conditions, while also pushing back against practices that threaten long-term employment stability. It's about creating a work environment where every worker is valued and has the opportunity to thrive. If we were teachers we would be unionized, if we were SIA’s we would be unionized. Let’s fight for fair treatment.
