Twix is just about a year old, but she’s already survived more than most dogs ever face. She came to us in critical condition. She was not eating, barely moving, and within hours of a life-threatening intestinal obstruction. She was rushed to UGA for emergency surgery.

What should have been a routine obstruction removal became a complicated, touch-and-go procedure. Just a month earlier, Twix had undergone a similar surgery elsewhere, leaving her with adhesions, a shortened intestine, and a dangerously high risk of perforation. Her owner could barely afford the first surgery and made the difficult decision to surrender her to save her life. The team at UGA worked carefully, and against the odds, Twix pulled through.

Her total medical cost including surgery, hospitalization, and aftercare, came to $7,021.75. We’re sharing her invoices and intake photos so you can see exactly what went into saving her life. Twix’s care cost more than twice what we expected and fully depleted the fund that allows us to respond instantly when a Doberman is in crisis. Our emergency fund is now empty. This is a large part of the reason we made the difficult decision to close down intake until the new year.

If you’re able, a donation of any amount helps us rebuild that fund so we can keep saying yes when urgent calls come in. You can donate on this Facebook post, or directly using one of the methods on our website here: https://www.georgiadobermanrescue.com/help-gdr/donate/

Twix will be available for adoption in the coming days, and thanks to supporters like you, she now has the chance at the healthy, happy life she deserves.

🍋💛 Some days in rescue are really, really hard. The heartbreak, the vet bills, the dogs no one chooses—it can weigh heavy. But then something beautiful happens, and it reminds us why we keep going.

Recently, a sweet and thoughtful family set up a lemonade stand—not for themselves, but for our rescue. They spent the day pouring drinks and pouring love into every cup, raising money to help dogs they’ve never even met. That kind of kindness? It’s everything.

To the Wilders: thank you. You didn’t just raise money—you lifted spirits, gave hope, and reminded us that the world still has so much good in it.

Moments like this are what carry us through the hard ones.
You restored our faith in humanity—and our hearts are so full. We just wish that we had rknown and stopped by. That lemonade and those Rice Krispie treats look SO good! 💛🐾
