Devotional — More Than Rules: The Heart Behind the Law
"You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself." — Matthew 22:37-39
Jesus didn't come to do away with the Ten Commandments. He came to show us what they were always meant to be — not just an external code of conduct, but an internal transformation of the heart.
Sunday we heard two examples of how Jesus deepened the law. It's not just "don't murder" — it's don't let anger and bitterness fester inside you, because that's where the damage starts. It's not just "don't commit adultery" — it's don't entertain the thoughts that lead there, because behavior always begins in the heart. Jesus was saying the same thing God was always saying: I care about what's happening on the inside.
That's not more restrictive — it's more freeing. Because when the heart is right, the actions follow naturally. When God is truly first, honoring His name means something to us. Resting in His presence becomes something we need, not just something we're told to do. Loving others stops being a rule and starts being an overflow.
Grace doesn't invalidate the commands of God. It empowers us to actually live them — from the inside out.
Challenge for today: Pick one of the Ten Commandments and ask God to show you what it looks like not just in your actions, but in your heart. Let Him do the deeper work.

Devotional — God First: The Foundation of Everything
"You must not have any other god but me." — Exodus 20:3
Sunday we looked at the Ten Commandments — not as a list of rules to follow, but as something God gave to protect His people and set them up for a blessed life. And the order was intentional. Everything starts with the first one: no other gods before Him.
God is not a God of chaos or disorder. He gave these commands in a specific order because He knew that if He wasn't first, nothing else would work the way it was meant to. That's just as true for us today as it was for Israel coming out of Egypt.
Here's the thing about idols — they're rarely carved statues anymore. They're the things we find our identity in, our security in, the things that quietly take the place of God in our hearts. Success, relationships, financial security, social status, even our children. None of those things are bad on their own. But when they become more important than God, they compete with Him. As Sunday's message put it: whatever is not under His lordship will eventually compete with it.
When God is first, everything else finds its right place. When He's not, things slowly drift out of alignment — and we often don't notice until the damage is already done.
Challenge for today: Honestly ask yourself — what has been competing for first place in your heart lately? Name it, and choose today to put God back in His rightful place.

Devotional — Five Ways to Navigate a Season Well
"Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary." — Isaiah 40:31
Sunday gave us five practical anchors for navigating seasons of life — especially the hard ones.
Use your time wisely. Every season has opportunities that won't always come back. Be present, be diligent, and know that God is with you in it.
Let go of the past. God told His people through Isaiah: I'm already doing something new — do you not see it? We miss what He's doing ahead of us when we're too busy looking behind us. Old mindsets, old habits, old comfort zones — some things have to go so the new thing can come.
Keep your confidence in the Lord. God told Joshua three times: be strong and courageous. That's not a suggestion — it's a choice we make every day, especially when discouragement tries to set in. Study the Word, meditate on it, and let it become the voice that's loudest in your head.
Overcome the negative. The Israelites had miracles in front of them and still grumbled their way out of the Promised Land. We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony — by speaking what God has done, not what the enemy is saying.
Steward this season well. Don't rush past where you are trying to get to where you're going. God is putting into you right now what you'll need for what comes next. Be faithful here, and trust Him with what's ahead.
Challenge for today: Which of these five is hardest for you right now? Take one honest step toward it today — and remember, the joy isn't just in the destination. It's in the journey.
