General information
The role of LISC in Detroit is that of a leader in the development and implementation of key programs and projects that advance strategic goals and of a deal-maker, creating and investing in priority physical development projects. We also serve as a convener, and strategic program planner, aligning players and resources around more comprehensive strategies and joint implementation plans. Finally, Detroit LISC serves a system-building role – working with our local and state municipal partners, LISC provides strategies for bringing ideas, players and resources together.
When there is a need, Detroit LISC is there bringing non-traditional partners together, leveraging resources, and building new relationships to drive comprehensive, sustainable change in Detroit’s neighborhoods. Detroit LISC is the catalyst that puts together the right players with the right resources to create innovative deals that meet the community’s needs.
Since 1990, Detroit LISC has invested $135 million which leveraged an additional $888 million. These investments have yielded 3,573 residential units and 618,062 square feet of commercial space (which are either completed, under construction or in predevelopment). These outcomes demonstrate that financing local revitalization efforts have had a significant impact on Detroit neighborhoods, with LISC involvement and financial products acting as the catalyst in many instances.
