Tree Trimming vs Tree Pruning 🌳

A lot of people use these terms like they mean the same thing, but there’s an important difference.

Tree trimming is usually about appearance and clearance. This includes lifting low branches, shaping overgrown trees, and keeping branches away from homes, roofs, fences, and driveways.

Tree pruning is more about tree health, safety, and structure. This includes removing dead, damaged, crossing, or weak branches to help the tree grow stronger over time.

Both are important, but the best option depends on what your tree actually needs.

This one in Kent took some precision.

We removed three large Fir trees sitting right next to a shed, which meant no room for error. Every piece had to be carefully rigged and lowered to avoid any damage.

Jobs like this are where experience really matters—planning the cuts, controlling the drop, and keeping everything safe.

Everything came down clean, and the shed stayed untouched 👍

If you’ve got trees growing too close to structures, feel free to reach out.

Not all trees should be trimmed at the same time of year.

Trimming at the wrong time can stress the tree, reduce flowering, or even make it more vulnerable to disease. In this guide, we break down the best time to trim different types of trees:

• Spring: Best for flowering trees after they bloom
• Summer: Good for light trimming and removing dead branches
• Fall: Usually best to avoid major pruning
• Winter: Best time for most major trimming and pruning

If you are not sure when your trees should be trimmed, we are happy to help.

At The Climber Tree Service, we have over 20 years of experience helping homeowners care for their trees safely and correctly.

Backyard Transformation 🌲

We recently completed a project where the homeowner was in the middle of renovating their backyard and needed to clear out space to move forward.

Our team removed a couple of trees and trimmed everything back along the fence line to really open things up.

Now they’ve got more usable space, better light, and a clean layout to continue their project.

Check out the video to see how it turned out 👇

Another dead tree safely removed for a homeowner in Kirkland today.

This tree had been dead for some time and was starting to deteriorate, which can make trees unpredictable and dangerous, especially during windstorms.

Our crew was able to safely climb and remove the tree piece by piece and leave the yard clean when we finished.

If you have a tree on your property that looks dead, leaning, or dropping branches, it may be worth having it looked at before it becomes a bigger problem.

Not every tree removal is straightforward.

When a tree falls onto a structure, the risk of shifting weight and hidden damage makes removal highly technical.

For this Renton job, we used crane support and strategic rigging to safely lift the tree off the home without causing further impact.

Situations like this highlight why emergency tree work should always be handled by experienced crews with the right equipment.
