On a recent return to Fort Collins, our food writer Josie Sexton was reminded what she loves about the place: One, that it feels like home, always. Two, that it also always feels on the verge of change.⠀
⠀
"Fort Collins’ dining scene is often overlooked next to those of Boulder and Denver," she writes. "The first time I pulled off the freeway onto Mulberry Street, I asked, 'Well, where is it?' Now, heading back for a day trip or weekend, I appreciate knowing where to look."⠀
⠀
"So this is a personal guide to dining in Fort Collins today. For ease, most spots are walkable from Old Town, with a few exceptions. They’re organized by meal and time of day. When you arrive, I hope there’s still some late-afternoon sunlight streaming over the foothills and a free counter seat where you can fit right in."⠀

Colorado has a whopping 18 semifinalists in the 2020 James Beard Awards. Last year, the state saw only 8 semifinalists in what is known as the “Oscars of food.”⠀
⠀
And 10 chefs were nominated for Best Chef in the mountain region. Congrats to Carrie Baird, Caroline Glover, Duncan Holmes, Tommy Lee, Brother Luck, Josh Niernberg, Cindhura Reddy, Dana Rodriguez, Kelly Whitaker and Luis Young!⠀

“I want to take the stuffiness of the holidays and making people feel like they have to celebrate something very specific and just open it up,” said Honduran chef Edwin Sandoval.⠀
⠀
Sandoval will start a new local celebration with a Latin American-inspired family meal that's open to all this Thanksgiving.⠀
