Cheers To Happy
Quick story from my kitchen table:
I asked my boys to clean up. My youngest got overwhelmed immediately. Pushback, resistance, tone. The works.
I tried to be helpful and break it down… and it backfired. The more I pushed solutions, the more he dug in.
So I paused. Took a break. Reset my tone.
Came back and asked something totally unrelated: “What are you most excited about for Easter?”
He answered (grumpy), big brother chimed in, and suddenly my youngest was engaged and excited.
Then I said:
“The table feels like a lot. Want me to break it down so it’s easier?”
“Nope. I got it!”
Cooperation showed up after connection did. The simple shift: don’t push harder when they’re overwhelmed; connect first so they can actually start.
