Subsurface water chemistry plays a crucial role in energy development and carbon management, including the production of petroleum resources, the extraction of minerals for battery-based energy storage, and the opportunities for geologic sequestration of carbon dioxide. The water’s chemistry is defined and dictated by temperature, pressure, and type and concentration of dissolved constituents, all of which can vary significantly with location and time. B3's Aqueous Geochemistry Data Module supports optimal decisions for how water can be used, re-used, disposed of, and best protected. Merging data from multiple sources, leveraging rigorous QA/QC protocols, and applying a consistent characterization of sample collection, preservation, and analysis gives users unparalleled access and insight into the composition of groundwater water across the United States.

On the evening of February 2nd, Oklahoma experienced a 5.1 magnitude (M) earthquake approximately 40 miles due east of Oklahoma City. This seismic event occurred within one-quarter mile of a 5.7 M earthquake in November of 2011. While Oklahoma has a recent history of increased frequency and magnitude of earthquakes associated with underground disposal of oilfield produced water, actions taken by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission to reduce disposal in areas of elevated seismic risk have led to a dramatic reduction in events back to near background levels. While Friday’s 5.1 M earthquake does not immediately seem to be part of a trend of increasing seismic activity, it is a reminder that continued vigilance and smart water management is a necessity for safe, secure, effective, and environmentally responsible underground fluid disposal.

This , we’re focusing on two of our favorite topics: carbon management and sustainability. A recent decision by the Biden administration has given the state of Louisiana the power to allow permits for carbon capture wells https://hubs.li/Q02hCqr60, offering new opportunities for local regulation and storage of CO2, as well as the development of new projects using carbon capture technology to help reach sustainability goals.

As CO2 storage and sequestration options grow and companies are given more freedom to make the best decisions for themselves—and the environment—B3’s qualified team is here to help. We provide the proprietary data, analytics tools, and expert guidance you need to find the carbon management solutions right for you.
