He lost 24 years of his life for crimes he never committed.
In 1982, Steven Phillips was building a roofing business in Texas and preparing to become a father when he was accused of a series of sexual assaults. Despite his wife testifying that he could not have committed the crimes, juries convicted him and he was sent to prison.
For years, his wife stood by him. She visited him behind bars, raised their son, and sent money to help him survive prison life.
But Steven remained incarcerated for 24 years.
Then DNA changed everything.
Testing linked another man to the crimes, and the courts officially declared Phillips innocent. The real perpetrator had gone on to commit numerous additional assaults while Phillips sat in prison for crimes he did not commit.
Under Texas law, Phillips received millions in compensation for the years taken from him.
Then came another legal battle.
His ex-wife argued that part of the compensation belonged to her because she had remained married to him during much of his imprisonment. A trial court initially agreed.
But in 2014, a Texas appeals court ruled that the compensation belonged solely to Phillips. The court found that the law compensated the wrongfully convicted person—not former spouses.
After 24 years behind bars, Steven Phillips got his freedom back.
And he kept every dollar.

🔥 He was just minutes away from finishing his shift.

20-year-old Jacob Smith was working as a shift manager at McDonald's when he noticed movement beside him. Before he could react, investigators say a co-worker threw hot cooking oil directly onto him.

The attack left Jacob with second-degree burns across his face, neck, arm, and back. Doctors say nearly a quarter of his body was burned, and he will require skin graft surgery. He remains in the ICU as he continues a painful recovery.

Police arrested 23-year-old Jalani Bluett and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon and mayhem. He is currently being held without bail.

But what has stunned many people isn't just the attack. It's Jacob's response.

From his hospital bed, while facing multiple surgeries and months of recovery, Jacob said:

"As much as I want to be angry, or want to hate people and be scared of people, it's just so hard to be when I have so many people showing their love for me."

He added that he isn't angry. He isn't consumed by hate. Instead, he says he's grateful for the support he has received.

One moment changed his life forever.

Now, while recovering from devastating injuries, he's choosing gratitude over anger.
