In just 4 hours, we successfully microchipped 108 Del Rio/Val Verde pets! Because of your commitment to your fur babies, our local animal control facilities will now be able to quickly identify lost pets and contact their owners, keeping more animals out of the shelters. ❤️
Missed out on today's event? Don't worry! We are already planning to do more of these free clinics in the future, so please stay tuned to our page for updates on the next one! 📣
An event like this takes a village, and we have some massive thank-yous to hand out:
-Our incredible volunteers: Thank you so much for showing up bright and early at 6:30 AM to set up and for keeping the energy high all day long. You are the heartbeat of these events!
-Val Verde County Animal Control & Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez: Thank you for allowing us to use your property and for keeping everything running smoothly by directing the flow of traffic.
-The Morgan Family: Thank you for providing our hard-working volunteers with the food we needed to stay fueled and focused!
-The kind participating family who always brings us sweet treats at our clinics. 🍰

🐾 FREE MICROCHIP & REGISTRATION CLINIC! 🐾
Del Rio pet owners, this is an incredible opportunity you don't want to miss!
Border Animal Mission is hosting a FREE Microchip & Registration Clinic to help keep your furry family members safe and out of local shelters.
🗓️ When: Saturday, May 30th | 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍 Where: 99 Tierra Blanca Dr, Del Rio, TX 78840
-100% Free microchip, implementation & registration
-Ability to update your contact info for life (also at no cost!)
Both of our local animal control facilities receive so many lost animals that have a microchip, but the owner never registered it—meaning there is no way to contact you. Microchipping & registering allows animal control to quickly identify you and get your baby back home fast, keeping owned pets out of the facility.
❤️ A Huge Thank You!
This event wouldn't be possible without our amazing partners. A massive thank you to Fi for providing the microchips and registration, and to Val Verde County for providing the perfect location to host us.
We have the most amazing group of BAM volunteers ready to help get your pets protected for FREE!
⚠️ Important Safety Guidelines:
To ensure a safe environment for everyone, please keep the following in mind:
-Please do not bring strays to this event.
-We cannot accommodate aggressive pets.
-Please muzzle your pet if you think there might be any safety or reactivity issues with other animals or people.
💖 How You Can Help Us Keep Doing This
While the chips and registration are covered for this event, coordinating and managing community clinics take a lot of resources. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, Border Animal Mission relies entirely on your generosity.
Donations are what keep us running every single day and allow us to host vital events like this for the Del Rio community! If you'd like to support our mission and help us save more lives, please consider dropping a donation at the event or giving online. Every single dollar goes directly back into helping local animals.
Spread the word, share this post, and let’s get Del Rio’s pets protected! We can't wait to see you there! 🐕🐈✨

✈️ Destination: A bright future. Current passenger count: 70! ✈️
We took in 7 more dogs today, bringing the total number of animals in BAM’s care to 70 as we count down to our next transport flight! Drop a comment to welcome Selene, Igloo, Cordelia, Duke, Del, Ria & Chico! 🐕👋
Because BAM operates as a relocation bridge rather than an adoption agency, we don't receive adoption fees to help offset our medical costs. We cover 100% of their vetting out of our own pockets before flying them to our nationwide adoption partners.
Vetting 70 dogs & cats for travel is a massive undertaking, and we desperately need your support to get them flight-ready.
❤️ How to support the BAM animals:
-Donate toward flight prep: https://borderanimalmission.org/donate
-FOSTER: We need open homes to keep these animals safe, happy, and decompressed until take-off!

🏴 THE SASSENACH & HER CLAN HAVE ARRIVED! 🐾
Since launching our No Mom Left Behind program, our goal has been to ensure that the hardworking momma animals at animal control never get left behind while their babies move on. Today, we are so excited to introduce you to Claire and her legendary Outlander puppies from City of Del Rio Animal Services!
Meet the crew: Bree, Marsali, Jamie, Fergus, Jenny, Geillis, Lizzie, and F***y. These nine beautiful souls aren’t just safe—they are TAGGED! A massive thank you to PAWS Animal Adoption Center for stepping up to take this entire family. They’ll be heading to the Northeast soon to find their forever Highlands. 🏔️✈️
A rescue this big takes a lot of logistics... and a LOT of laundry. We want to give a special shout-out to Rescue Wrapped In Love! They just dropped off a massive blanket donation that is already being put to good use. Nursing mamas like Claire and her eight growing pups go through bedding faster than we can keep up with, and these blankets are a lifesaver. Plus, these will be essential for our upcoming Spay/Neuter Clinic here in Del Rio.

🌸 Happy Mother’s Day: No Mom Left Behind🌸
To all the human moms, foster moms, and fur-moms out there—today we celebrate the bond that stays strong through thick and thin. 🐾
At Border Animal Mission, we believe a mother’s job doesn’t end at the shelter gates. That’s why we’re making a promise: No Mom Left Behind.
For us, this isn't just a slogan—it’s how we operate. We have never pulled puppies from animal control while leaving their mom behind to face an uncertain fate. But this year, we’ve taken that commitment a step further.
Now, even once the babies are fully weaned, we ensure the entire family stays together for the whole journey. They travel on the same transport and arrive at the same rescue facility together. This allows them to decompress and feel safe in a familiar pack as they start their new lives.
While we strive to reach every pet through our spay/neuter initiatives before a litter is born, the reality is that many families still arrive at animal control in need of a miracle. When the "prevention" stage has already passed, our "protection" stage kicks in to ensure that mom and her babies stay together.
This program is only possible because of our incredible foster families. They open their homes to entire litters and their mamas, providing the love and stability these families need before they head out-of-state. We couldn't do this without you!
So far in 2026, we’ve kept these families side-by-side:
✨ Marcy & Darcy and their Disney pups
✨ Violet & her Bridgerton pups
✨ Juno & her Couch Potato pups
✨ Mama Colada & her Spring Break pups
✨ Marge & her Simpsons pups
✨ Honey & her Cereal pups
Next up?
Our sweet Lily and her Easter puppies (Bluebonnet, Gunner, and Rose) are currently thriving in foster care and are all tagged to head to New Fairfield/Sherman Animal Welfare Society together this June!
How you can help:
Caring for moms and babies takes a lot of supplies! If you’d like to support our fosters and these growing families, please check out our Amazon Wish List:

Keeping families together isn't always the easiest path, but it’s the right one. Thank you for being part of their journey.

🐾 Meet Caliente: A Tiny Fighter 🐾
Sometimes, the smallest rescues carry the biggest burdens.
We recently pulled Caliente, a brave little kitten, from City of Del Rio Animal Services. She arrived with a severely broken leg, and because she was found as a stray, we don’t know exactly how long she had been suffering with the injury.
After consulting with our vets, it became clear that because the break wasn't fresh, the probability of a surgical "fix" successfully mending the bone was low. To ensure she can live a life free of chronic pain and mobility issues, the best option for her future was an amputation.
Caliente is now recovering and learning that life on three legs is just as fast—and much more comfortable! Thank you Dr. Upchurch, her incision looks amazing and Caliente is already attempting to run a marathon🏃♀️➡️
Her journey to health is only possible through your support. As many of you know, BAM provides the essential vetting and foster care needed to get these animals ready for our out-of-state adoption partners. Because those partners handle the final placements, BAM does not receive adoption fees to offset the cost of emergency medical care.
Please consider donating to Caliente’s surgery and recovery fund:

Every donation, no matter the size, helps us say "yes" to animals like Caliente who need a second chance at a pain-free life. Thank you for being part of her village! 🦴❤️

✨Community Business Spotlight✨
We want to take a moment to shine a light on a truly incredible local partner that makes our work at BAM possible: Debbie's Dog Grooming.
In the world of rescue, it truly takes a village, and Rebecca and her entire team have become an essential part of ours. Getting our animals ready for their freedom flights and ground transports is a massive undertaking, and the care provided at Debbie’s is a total game-changer.
Not only do they open their doors to provide a safe, loving foster space for our pups, but their grooming services ensure our rescues look and feel their absolute best before heading to their adoption centers. Rebecca and her staff treat every animal that walks through their doors with such kindness and patience. It’s clear they believe in this mission just as much as we do!
Their generosity allows us to direct more of our resources toward saving more lives, and we couldn't be more grateful for their unwavering support.
If you are looking for a place that truly cares about the well-being of Del Rio’s animals, please go see the amazing team at Debbie’s!

👋 Hello to our new followers and a huge thank you to our long-time supporters! 🐾
We’ve seen a lot of new faces around here lately, so we wanted to take a moment to re-introduce ourselves and share exactly how Border Animal Mission (BAM) works to save lives in our community.
Our mission is simple but urgent: We act as the bridge between our overwhelmed local animal control facilities and life-long loving homes. From the moment an animal is pulled from the shelter to the second they step off the transport to their new adoption facility, we are there to ensure they are healthy, loved, and safe.
Check out our newly updated website to see our impact and how you can get involved:

Below is a breakdown of our process and how your support helps us move mountains for Del Rio’s animals! 👇
ANIMAL CONTROL PARTNERSHIPS
BAM proudly partners with Val Verde County Animal Control and City of Del Rio Animal Services. We focus exclusively on pulling animals at immediate risk of euthanasia. Our mission is to build trust within the Del Rio community by demonstrating a shared commitment to transparent, effective animal welfare. By working hand-in-hand with local services, we save lives that might otherwise be lost.
THE JOURNEY HOME: HOW WE WORK
📍FOSTER CARE
Once pulled from animal control, animals enter our 100% volunteer-based foster network. Here, they get the chance to decompress and relax in a safe environment. This vital socialization prepares them for the transition to their forever homes.
🩺 COMPREHENSIVE MEDICAL
Every animal receives professional care from local veterinarians.
-Full vaccinations & health certificates.
-Spay and neuter procedures.
-Detailed medical documentation for seamless continuity of care.
🚐 SAFE TRANSPORTATION
We relocate animals to communities across the U.S. where adoption demand is high. Whether by car, van, RV, or airplane, we have successfully moved animals to adoption rescues in seven different states, ensuring their comfort every mile of the way.
🤝 RESCUE PARTNERSHIPS
We work with vetted partners nationwide who reserve our animals and handle the final adoption process. Because our partners and transportation may require official animal control ID numbers, our strong local government relationships are key to keeping the process streamlined and accountable.
⚠️ ADOPTIONS
At this time, BAM does not facilitate local adoptions. We focus our resources entirely on the medical preparation and transport of animals to our partner adoption rescues. Because we do not charge fees to these receiving rescues, our mission is 100% funded by donations and grants.
YOU CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.
Your generosity provides the foster supplies, medical care, transport, and documentation these animals need for a second chance. Visit our site to learn how you can help!

What a way to end the month! BAM has officially saved 44 animals throughout April. 🐾
We are endlessly grateful to the foster families who opened their homes to make this happen. To put it simply: without our fosters and volunteers, this mission would be impossible.
When you see a Freedom Flight taking off or a Freedom Ride via ground transport, it’s easy to focus on the travel—but the real work starts long before that. It starts in your living rooms and backyards. Our fosters provide the safety, healing, and love that these animals need to get ready for their next chapter. You are the bridge between a life of uncertainty and a forever home.
To our volunteers who help with logistics, supply runs, transports and the endless behind the scenes tasks: you are the backbone of everything we do. You make it possible for us to move quickly and save lives when every minute counts.
If you’ve been thinking about getting involved, now is the perfect time. We have so many more lives to save, and we can only go as far as our foster network allows.
