of Week 2, 4, and 7 to receive the information you’ll need to sign up. Once you’re at the meeting there will be a sign up link that begins the process of signing up for a hike. After a few confirmation emails you’ll be good to go! Q: Does it cost anything to go on a hike? Part of our mission is to give everyone an equal opportunity to hike. We rely solely on donations and the generosity of our hikers to reimburse our drivers. Q: Can I go on a hike if I can’t make the meeting? A: We give priority to people who come to the meetings. Unfortunately, since so many people come to the meetings we often do not have extra spots. However, feel free to contact an officer and we’ll accommodate you to the best of our ability. Q: What should I bring hiking? A: Come wearing comfortable, supportive shoes you can walk in for long distances. Hiking boots or other athletic shoes are usually fine along most trails. Water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, layers of clothing (depending on season), and hats are recommended as well. Q: Do I need any experience? We have hikes of varying difficulties to accommodate different fitness levels and experience desires. Generally, easy hikes take more water breaks and go at a more leisurely pace along fairly gentle terrain to allow for picture-taking. Difficult hikes go considerably faster and take fewer breaks along trails which are steeper, longer, or less well-kept. Q: How do I become a member? A: Davis Hiking Club has an open membership policy, meaning that anyone who comes to the meeting and signs in is considered a member. To be an active member (eligible for applying to be an officer) you need to attend 3 DHC events in the last two quarters.
