Another police officer has been killed in a completely senseless act of violence.
Tulane University Police Corporal Martinus Mitchum was providing security for a high school basketball game in New Orleans when an attendee got in a dispute with a school staff member. Corporal Mitchum overheard and intervened to es**rt the man off campus. The man pulled out a gun and shot Corporal Mitchum in the chest.
The suspect has been arrested for first-degree murder and armed robbery. Reports say the dispute was over his refusal to wear a mask inside the high school.
Mitchum was only 38. I'm reading tonight about the lives he changed during his years on this earth. Now the rest of his life has been stolen from him, and from all those who knew and loved him. My heart goes out to all of them, and the entire Volusia Sheriff's Office will join in honoring Corporal Mitchum's memory. All our respect to another great law enforcement officer taken from us too soon.
