Yesterday was a great day for Democrats in Texas! We had unprecedented, record turnout and it clearly sends a signal that not only are Texans hungry for change, but Texas is a purple state. We have a wonderful opportunity to flip the Texas House in 2020 and I hope everyone will pull together to ensure we do that. Everything about how our state is governed is at stake in November and we have to do all we can to elect a Democratic majority. Congratulations to Joanna Cattanach for Texas State Representative HD108 on a hard fought victory and I know we will all work to make sure she represents us in Austin in 2021.

While I can’t adequately express my disappointment in not having a chance to represent you, I’m heartened by the positives of the opportunity we as Democrats have in 2020. I’m also grateful beyond words for the support so many of you have provided my campaign to make Texas a better state. I said last night that despite the results, ours was clearly a winning team. I’m proud of every volunteer, donor and supporter and you are the most amazing collection of people I’ve ever been associated with. All of us were fighting for the same cause - to change our state government to one that improves our schools and access to healthcare while respecting the rights and dignity of every single Texan. I know that cause will continue to unite us.

I can’t say enough about the team that managed this effort - Sarah Slamen, Susan Duncan and Libby Hayhurst. These women are incredible and I’ve loved every minute of working with them and they deserved a better outcome. I had volunteers (you know who you are) who did more than was imaginable and I will forever be grateful for your effort. The friendships we made will last a lifetime and I have so much love and appreciation for all of you.

Finally, I want to thank my family. The highlight of this effort was campaigning with my family the past few days. My mother spent early voting greeting voters, David worked every day greeting voters in early voting and knocked on hundreds of doors and my kids, Austin and Alex were incredible at the doors this weekend and at the polling places yesterday. Having my kids and David fight for every vote at their polling places will always be one of the highlights of my life. My family was just amazing and I just wish I had matched their effectiveness.
