In preparation for my own L&D experience, I've been doing a ton of reading. Here are some of the hurdles that individuals with trauma are more likely to encounter and some trauma-informed solutions. They may seem obvious... after talking with medical professionals... it takes more than just being obvious. Hopefully this can help more people feel empowered to ask for what they need/want, to create a partnership with their providers.

As we move into the new year, it can be tempting to set lofty resolutions, to declare firmly to yourself and your circle, "I'm doing [x]." So, as you set your goals for 2020, I'd like to offer an additional layer of challenge (or enrichment).
I challenge you, in 2020, to resolve to enjoy each step along the way. Wherever you say your journey is going to take you, savor the scenery. Even the good, the bad, the ugly because that too can grow us in ways we may not even be able to imagine.
Proceed through the months mindfully. If you dance, put all of yourself into dancing. If you're singing in the car, belt it out like you were born to sing. If you're making art, immerse yourself in the colors and textures and shapes. Be fully present in everything.
And honor the endings, no matter how much they might hurt and leave you raw, because they make way for beginnings.

The holidays can be a difficult time for some. I'd like to offer this quote for anyone who finds themselves facing those who hurt them.
I'd like to take this further, not everyone deserves forgiveness. Your healing isn't contingent upon forgiving an abuser. Your feelings are so, so valid. But when you do find yourself wanting and needing to forgive, then I encourage forgiveness that embraces your emotional experience. What you feel and felt matters.
