Cruise 🚢 Jamaica 🇯🇲 and more
Here’s a video and I’ll post an album of pics and video so you can see the events for the story below.
1. Day one- Cruise rerouted from Bahamas to the Caribbean due to “weather conditions”. There was loads of rock music to start the trip right.
2. Day 2 at sea with loads of rock music
3. Day 3 port at Jamaica Ocho Rios - on Bob Marley’s birthday. The weather was risky it seemed as they were letting folks off in 5 minute intervals due to surging waves and ship movement next to the dock so we took our time to have breakfast before getting in line to get off the boat.
4. We weee in line to get off of the boat to see Jamaica and something slams into the boat. The mission was aborted by the Captain due to bad weather conditions. I told Thomas it sounded like someone poked a hole in the boat. So we couldn’t get off.
5. Thomas and I go to the top floor to see what was going on. I did a video of the people below taking video of the ship. Why are they taking video of the boat? We obviously hit the pier but how bad was it? See photos.
6. Wait we are disembarking and going out to sea!!???? With a hole in the boat? Idk? Looks like gas lines on the pier we just crushed.
7. There are Shiprockers still ashore. We hear that we are going back to get them as soon as the other Pier opens up. But what about the boat damage??!!!
8. It started raining. By this time the captain is calling for all crewmembers to “man” Their emergency stations followed by this is not a drill.
9. Next, we see all crew members with lifejackets on. 😳 but told not to panic. 😱 as we get further out to sea.
10. Services were stopped (opposed to the report by carnival), because all crew members were at there emergency station.
11. Several hours later no food, no internet or communication to the people on land. Parents and adult kids separated had them worried with good cause. A level 3 crime alert in Jamaica 🇯🇲
12. Finally went back to port and docked. Tied down tightly so we can not only pick up the remaining Shiprockers but to have a team of specialists, who were flown in, to inspect the ship and give a green flag to sail back into the open ocean.
13. Almost 12 hours after we first docked, the guests were finally let back on the ship as the rock n roll music began with Cassyette in the Aft lounge. Some band members were stuck on the island. The entire band schedule changed. It was a mess. Carnival not Jamaica was prepared for this. It was dark.
14. Apparently the staff’s floor zero was flooded and they had to be relocated to other rooms in the boat.
15. We were told it was a water line 🙄 smelled like a sewer line. As long as we were not sinking we may be able to survive. 😵‍💫 and did. Still loads of rock music.
16. Day 4 still in Jamaica 🇯🇲 all day. Enzo, our photographer friend, asked if we wanted to go on the Bob Marley tour. Maybe wouldn’t have done that but the opportunity was right and it was the day after Bob Marley’s birthday. We saw where he was born, where he lived growing up, and where his and his mother lay in their mausoleum.
17. Massive rock n roll music shows in every venue. This is normal on this cruise and not a distraction. 😃
18. Day 5 Shove out to sea in the evening and 4:30am wake up to the captain calling for emergency staff on our floor. Seems there was a fire. I saw staff in life jackets and the lady across the hall said firemen in full gear were rushing to the first floor or floor zero. Not sure but it was 4:30am and I wasn’t taking anything lightly at this point.
19. Thomas went out to investigate. We had a camera of the deck on the TV and people were milling around but no one in life jackets that I could see.
20. Minutes later an announcement of a “false” alarm came across the hall speakers. None of this was announced in the rooms but when I hear announcements at 4:30am in the hall, I know something is not right. Thomas comes back. We both go back out on deck. Who can sleep after that?
21. Grand Cayman cancelled due to destructive weather. 😭🤯
22. At sea and Friday finally woke up in Bimini, which was supposed to be our first stop. We basically walked around and shuttled the tourist area then went beach combing. spent time on the beautiful beach but didn’t get to snorkel this trip. Forgot our gear. But didn’t need it anyway. Weather was a beast.
23. Sailing back to Florida for Saturday embarkment. Glad to be back on land.
24. Flight wasn’t til later. Flight delayed due to weather. Just praying to get home safely. It was eventless thank God! 🙏🙏
25. Catching our scheduled Lyft at love field sucks. garage B is a long walk. 🤣
26. Got home. Grateful and Happy! Wound up and tired. Things could have been much worse. 🙏🙏🙏
27. I may be forgetting something but needed to get this down so I could share our Shiprocked 2024 experience. We survived. People who had been on 15-20 cruises said this was the worst experience by far. It was our 6th. STILL could have been worse. 🙏🙏 grateful!
