Matthew 25

A lot is said in the Bible about the end times and the return of Christ. This chapter alludes to the giftings people can receive as they fulfill the law and the prophets when the time is right.

One of the most faithful things that Jesus seems to want people to do is to look after those who are less fortunate. Love those who are in need, the poor, the widows, and the children. Where there is weakness in stature and where those who are not significant in society are, Jesus wants our attention. Notice that He didn’t spend much time in synagogues or in secret meetings with top-level religious leaders. Still, He did spend time at dinners with tax collectors, who were considered among the lowest in society. I am sure people would prefer to be a tax collector than a servant, but still, nothing glorious.

I want you to think for a minute about why His focus was so strong here. It’s again, one of those things that flies in the face of “normal”. How many times are people, with no name or fame, on the news because they helped a needy neighbor or, gasp, enemy? It’s not often, and in fact, it rarely receives praise. It’s these boots on the ground, getting your hands a little dirty without the shouts of praise, that will one day land you some of the most prized rewards in heaven. Where you store your treasure, there your heart will be also.

Exodus 15

Who is like the Lord? Mighty and strong, wonderful, glorious, working wonders. This is the Lord that the Israelites came to know when He rescued them from the impending danger of the Egyptians. They had been enslaved to them for hundreds of years. Now they are free, not because they chose to be, but because the Lord called them out of Egypt, moved them by His mighty hand, and graciously placed them on the other side of the waters, only to show His holiness and judge the Egyptians one last time because of them. In fact, the foolish people wanted to run BACK to Egypt because life there seemed easier. Fools! Trust the Lord!

Chariots, horse riders, kings, and princes were all lost that day. Not a single person was left standing for the Egyptians. It was truly a day that the Israelites could sing for joy and worship the Lord in truth. Moses and his people were victorious, not because of their great war strategies, but only because of the Lord.

Notice that the people didn’t prepare their lives in such a way as to be saved by God. No, they were all but righteous and deserving. But the Lord, because of His promise to Abraham, contingent on NOTHING, kept His promise to them and brought them out to make them holy and to be their God. There is no God like ours. None that saves us inspite of the lack of gifting towards them. The Lord is mighty and strong, and He truly loves us! Praise Him today because of the works He is doing in and through you today!
