Set the school year up for success by setting and teaching classroom expectations, which can help educators increase consistency and reduce time spent on correcting behaviors.

✔ Classroom management practices are core instructional behavioral supports necessary for all students and include setting and teaching expectations and classroom agreements.
✔ Classroom expectations are broad behavioral standards used to guide the teaching and practice of behaviors that support learning, engagement and positive social interactions.
✔ Common school and classroom expectations may include value-driven terms such as: integrity, self-awareness, safety, service, respect, and responsibility.
✔ Classroom agreements, or rules, are used to explicitly teach students what the expectations look like and how they can meet the expectations.

A consistent and meaningful system of agreements provides structure for students and helps them to engage with instructional tasks and demonstrate appropriate social behaviors.
