With talks between unified Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk () and WBC champion Tyson Fury () seeming to have fallen apart, former WBC champion Deontay Wilder () has expressed interest in stepping in to face Usyk.

While the prospect for such a matchup certainly wets the appetite of many fight fans, the politics of the sport’s multiple sanctioning bodies seems to be a hurdle. The WBA has most recently mandated that Usyk would be required to face their regular champion, Daniel Dubois to consolidate their body’s two titles. Following that, the IBF have established Filip Hrgovic () as their mandatory challenger, with the WBO mandating the winner of the upcoming Joe Joyce/Zhilei Zhang as the next challenger for their title.

For his part, Deontay Wilder has been left without an opponent after no agreement could be made with former unified champion, Andy Ruiz, for a WBC final eliminator.
