I mentioned this in my last post and it reaaaally resonated with you guys.
So let’s dive deeper!
Have you ever heard the saying, “Work ON your business instead of IN your business?”
It’s easy to get caught up in lead generation, client work, money-making, and all the things that come with running your small business.
While these tasks are totally necessary to stay afloat and FEEL like an indicator of growth...
..you won’t achieve all those bigger business goals unless you set aside time to deal with your own stuff.
This could be:
🗃Setting up organizational systems
💅Updating your branding
📧Writing newsletters for your email list
➕And so much more!
I know the feeling of wanting to prioritize paid projects over hours slogging through admin tasks.
But the time you spend on your business will open up the door to make even more money in the long run.
As for me, I’m in the middle of a major rebranding.
It involves tons of time-consuming processes—scrapping things that don’t fit anymore, rethinking services, writing new web copy, market research (and on and on).
But in the end, I’ll have a brand that feels much more aligned with ME, my dream clients, and where my business is at.
How will you work ON your business this week?

Did I always want to be a copywriter?
Nope!
But aside from a few moments where I went in other directions (lawyer, diplomat)—I always wanted to be a writer of some sort.
So I thought I’d share some of the writerly moments that don’t necessarily make it into my resume.😂
In 4th grade, I roped my fellow classmates into auditioning for roles as my publicist, editor, and even security guard (yes, really🤦🏻♀️)...
..as I teased the release of my first novel.
Safe to say, it never actually got published, although I did write a few chapters that are probably drifting around in the attic somewhere.
In senior high, I worked as the editor-in-chief of the school paper and absolutely fell in love with journalism.
I would willingly come early and stay late just to snag a few extra hours in the “newsroom.”
In university, the obsession continued. I dug deeper into journalism and media studies, as well as political science and international relations.
+ I developed a huge interest in issues of academic freedom, free speech, and US-China relations...
..which allllll culminated on a thesis on the 2019-2020 Hong Kong protests.
Phew.🥵
Now I want to hear about your career journey!
Did you always want to be what you are now?
How did you find your way into your current career?

Here are 3 ways to develop & nurture incredible client relationships (+ why it matters)!🤝
1️⃣ Add a personal touch.
While you can use general outlines for discovery calls, emails, and other outreach materials...
..don’t be afraid to go off script!
A personal touch makes all the difference between someone feeling like just another client and a properly nurtured one.😉
For example—
If someone’s dog pops into the background on a discovery call, your follow-up email could open with “Lovely to meet you, and your pups!”
2️⃣ Be accessible.
You don’t have to provide 24/7 customer service, but you should be easy to reach.
If a client has questions or concerns throughout a project, offer prompt and supportive responses.
3️⃣ Follow up and get feedback post-project.
Just because you’ve delivered what you promised...doesn’t mean the relationship is finished!
Show your clients you care by sticking around after a project wraps up.
Ask for feedback on the process of working with you, celebrate their successes, and keep the door open to collaborating again in the future.
👩🏿🤝👩🏽The ability to nurture client relationships is a vital skill for any service provider.
Happy clients are much more likely to work with you again AND refer you to others.
How do you connect with the people you work with?

When was the last time you invested in your business?
When you’re still in the early stages of growing or expanding your small business, an investment of any kind can be super challenging.
⏱ Time investment
Because you’re still juggling other responsibilities like school, family, or a full-time job.
💰 Financial investment
Because you’re not hitting your income goals quite yet. (And because it’s always tough to part with hard-earned money)!
I get it, and I’ve been there.
But I can also tell you that when I finally did invest in my business...
..it made ALL the difference.
Of course, it’s still nice to have a discount.😉
