••• My favorite kind of workshop to facilitate are those that bring , , and together and this was just that! 🧘🏽‍♀️🌀🌱

The + interns came together for a morning of breathing and art making connected to The Ancestor Tree 🪾

🧐We sat with the question, “What keeps you rooted, stable, and grounded?”

We then played with watercolors 🎨 and drawing ✍🏽 materials and created from two different perspectives, first of our own choosing, then where someone else had sat.

I use multiple perspectives exercises often in my teaching to emphasize this as a value both in art and in life.

👩🏽‍🏫 Black feminist theory teaches us that societies built around centering multiple perspectives trains us out of a single dominant narrative and instead the importance of all voices being the foundation for creating new worlds 🌎🌍🌏

May we hold onto these wisdoms for hope no matter how hopeless we are being pushed to be.

This piece is about the human experience of searching for Love and partnership. It was made ‘s Teen Program where during my postdoctoral fellowship I spent time with awesome teens in New Haven and made art together. The first part of the title, “Giggle Hugs” was suggested by a student in the program. The second part translates to “Every lid has a pot” which is a Brazilian expression meaning that for everyone, there is someone meant to be your person. May Love, of many kinds, find and fulfill us on our life journeys 💞🙏🏽
