April is National Safe Digging Month in the United States, a timely reminder that safe excavation practices extend well beyond the energy industry.

Whether installing a fence, planting a tree, or beginning a construction project, one critical step should always come first: checking for underground utilities.

While National Safe Digging Month is a U.S. observance, safe digging practices are important everywhere. Wherever you are, we encourage you to connect with your local utility providers before breaking ground.

In the U.S., dial 811 or submit a request online. In Canada, visit Click Before You Dig. Both are free services that connect residents with local utility providers to identify and mark underground infrastructure before work begins.

Our Puget Sound refinery recently presented a $25,000 check to the Anacortes Fire Department (AFD) in support of its expanding safety initiatives. The funds will go toward safety technology for the department's new fire-rescue boat, strengthening response capabilities in the challenging conditions of our shared waterways.

Anacortes is home to many of our team members and their families, making this partnership especially meaningful.
