District 1: Every Voice Matters
Crown Point’s District 1 is made up of four voting precincts—19, 24, 31, and 32—representing thousands of residents and families who have a direct stake in the future of our community. Across these precincts are more than 6,100 registered voters living in over 5,000 households, yet voter participation in the 2023 General Election was remarkably low. Local elections determine the leaders who make decisions about city spending, development, public safety, infrastructure, and the services that impact our daily lives.
In Precinct 19, there are 2,017 registered voters and approximately 1,702 households. Only 302 residents voted in the 2023 General Election, resulting in a voter turnout of 14.97%, meaning 85.03% of registered voters did not cast a ballot.
In Precinct 24, there are 761 registered voters living in approximately 625 households. Only 136 residents voted, for a turnout of 17.87%, meaning 82.13% of registered voters did not vote.
In Precinct 31, there are 1,730 registered voters and approximately 1,437 households. Just 171 residents participated in the 2023 General Election, resulting in a turnout of 9.88%. That means 90.12% of registered voters did not vote.
In Precinct 32, there are 1,596 registered voters and approximately 1,283 households. Only 199 residents cast a ballot, for a voter turnout of 12.47%. This means 87.53% of registered voters did not participate in the election.
These numbers tell an important story. When only a small percentage of residents vote, a relatively small number of ballots determine the future direction of our city. Regardless of political affiliation or viewpoint, every Crown Point resident deserves to have their voice heard. As our community continues to face important decisions—including rising water and sewer costs, city finances, development, and long-term debt—local elections matter more than ever. Your vote is your voice. By participating in every election, we can ensure that the future of Crown Point reflects the priorities and values of the people who call District 1 home.

A resident criticized Mayor Pete Land, City Council members, and Plan Commission members, expressing concern that city officials had not publicly addressed various controversies and community concerns. The resident questioned the actions and positions of several elected officials and raised concerns about city debt, infrastructure, and public safety.
Mayor Pete Land responded by defending city officials, stating that council members work hard, care about the community, and often face criticism and misinformation. He described Crown Point as a great place to live and raise a family.
Councilman Bob Clemons also defended the council's record, emphasizing the importance of facts and highlighting what he viewed as the city's progress under current leadership.
As the discussion concluded, a member of the audience shouted, "Can't wait for 2027," apparently referring to future elections.
