Junior Kat Mann has a reputation for positivity and kindness. Her classmates and teammates know that they can always look to her for encouragement. But there is one thing that drives her crazy.
“[I hate] when people are mean to others for no reason,” Mann said. “They’ll have no reason to hate this person or be mean to them, but they’re just mean and I don’t like it. People shouldn’t be made fun of.”
Although Mann might be best known for her kindness, she’s also fairly famous for her school spirit. She’s always ready to support the football team regardless of the theme, yet one theme stands out every year.
“My favorite theme is the red, white, and blue American theme. I love that one because I have a red, white, and blue hat that I wear all the time. I absolutely love it!”

In April, Senior Natalee Shipley’s family became 1,500 miles apart. When her dad took a new job in California, she stayed behind with her mother so she could graduate. Slowly, the house became empty.
As a ceramic engineer, Shipley’s father worked long hours that he eventually burnt out on, so when a company in California called he seemed to just hop on the flight. Now he lives alone in California with his wife and daughter 1,500 miles away.
“He was unhappy with his job, so he decided to get a new one,” Shipley said.
The Shipley house is accustomed to the loss as Shipley’s siblings have all left for college, but now the household has dwindled down to two.
“It’s really strange now; he used to eat dinner with us but now he’s not there. It feels very empty,” Shipley said.
Shipley and her mom are going to spend this next year just the two of them with only phone calls tying them to her father. While, her mom will move to California when Shipley graduates, her father’s location hasnt played a big role in her college decision.
“My mom’s going to move with him as soon as I graduate, but I don’t plan on living in California,” Shipley said.
