a powerful live act, featuring strong original material as well as an eccentric, revealing set of cover songs. It was during an appearance at the South By Southwest music conference that a tape passed to The Judds management found its way into the hands of producer Brad Jones, who liked what he heard and soon after, a deal was struck with New York’s Slab Recordings. In short order, the stage was set for a proper album to be recorded with Brad and Robin Eaton at Alex the Great studios in Nashville. Touring commitments meant the group only had one week to record the basic tracks and another to overdub. Fortunately, the band was finely honed at this point and completed the recording on time. Following a little post-production tweaking by Fred Maher (Lou Reed, Matthew Sweet, Lloyd Cole), the Boys had their record in the can, an album that reflects a diverse collective taste while remaining stylistically consistent. A cross-country tour followed the album’s cd-only release, culminating in a series of high-profile gigs in Los Angeles.
