From... the Shadows of a place where sound is engorged like a rivers flow, there is a man purely of talent and skill, a man of one value, a stone leader in the mixing and blinding game. From the time he was a little child John “jwalku” Walkup was showing his ability’s, at age 2yr.his mother bought him a 6 piece drum set and from there he went on to enjoy more meaning behind percussion and rhythm.
I knew I would become a DJ and/or producer, being born into an entertainers-household where both sides of his parents had singers/song writers in it (most famous was his aunt “Dottie West” a US country Singer/Song writer). He was born and raised in the City of Columbus, Ohio. his artistic blood drove him to the turntables to eventually become one of the most creative Artists in the central scene where he was. As a former fan of hip hop, R&B, it was John’s friend who infected him with the dance virus. In 1998 the friend gave John an opportunity to spin at a event in the factory district in downtown Columbus. Ever since then, John "jwalku" Walkup has had his vinyl on the table’s and cd’s in the decks. Together with his fellow DJ’s, he produced tunes for Ruthless Records and Phat Buda Productions, one of which even reached a ranking in the Hip Hop charts. Then John got married and decided to take it slow for a while. However, he was buying every new piece of equipment he could get and learning it as the technology was changing. in about 2006 John broke with his wife and got the fire back and came to the West. After having spent 2 years up and down in the Midwest, " Jwalku" set foot again on Ohio soil in early 2009 were he meet up with “Mista Sinista” DMC mix Champion ( from “The Executioners”) and John "Maggz". At that time he liked the scratch style so much that he got right back into the whole scene. ‘I was really into it, “jwalku” explains, because Scratch music was a kind of music that was solid to me. When i play, I have to say that i prefer a combination of different styles, such as the HipHop,DnB,Dub,Dubstep,German hardtrance, techno, and many other hard banging styles’, “jwalku” then took a next big step in his career and came in touch with Dylan James “Deej Betamorph”, which is the Founder/CEO of Betamorph Recordings. The year 2010 was a nonstop succession of unforgettable moments, such as Rothbury,UGS6,Sonic Bloom Fest, Winter Warp Drive 5 and many other top raves. .. .. A year later jwalku played a major event In Lawrence, Kansas. Plus rememberable gigs on the coast.Making music is very important to me, but I also want to grow as a DJ. I work with numerous turntables which has become a form I like best. Besides this, I would also like to broaden my spinning style’,. .. I’ve started working with a number of different software’s alongside the decks, making him have a mind and ear for experimental Bass music. If I could describe how I work, I would have to say a am very complex. Moving from the Midwest to the West were he started working for various Labels such as Foul Play Recordings,& Abducted Records. He also moved out west to start on Production with Fred Garde. He is now working on some Studio Projects that will be coming some time in the next year.
