An often repeated comment between TV reporters and videographers is, “Can you believe they pay us to do this?”
For the better part of 40 years, I have had the privilege of sharing the stories of good and courageous people, exposing the fraud and shenanigans of others and helping, in some cases, to record the first draft of history.
At the end of this week, I will be moving on. Retiring.
I’m not convinced that anyone ever really knows when the time is right. But this sure feels like it to me.
So I want to say thank you to all the people who trusted me to tell their stories, to all of my colleagues over the years who helped make those stories come alive for television, and to all the managers and television stations (WWNY, WSAZ, WSYX, WEWS, WBNS, WCMH) who believed in my work and gave me a platform and a paycheck.
I also want to thank Sara and our children Max and Hannah for their love and support. It requires great patience and understanding to live with someone who works in a 24/7 business, who can’t leave his job at the office and who tells way too many stupid dad jokes.
See you around.
