Be careful out there, folks!
🔺Winter Storm & Road Treatment Update🔺
With an upcoming winter storm approaching, the City of Oberlin wants to ensure that residents and visitors are informed about current road treatment conditions.
Salt suppliers serving local communities, the county, state, and school districts are experiencing significant shortages and supply challenges. As a result, the City’s salt stockpiles are currently low, and we have been actively conserving supplies. City crews will continue plowing operations throughout the storm; however, salt usage will be limited and prioritized for primary and secondary street intersections, hills, curves, and areas prone to snow drifting. Liquid deicers will also be applied as weather conditions allow to improve efficiency and extend available salt resources.
For everyone’s safety, please use extra caution if travel is unavoidable. Allow additional travel time, drive at reduced speeds, increase following distances, and use extra care when approaching intersections.
City of Oberlin crews will do their very best to keep roadways as clear and safe as possible. Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and understanding as we manage these challenging conditions.

Today we honor the life, service, and sacrifice of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A man whose courage, faith, and moral clarity continue to challenge us especially in moments like these, when our nation feels divided, uncertain, and in need of steady leadership rooted in justice and love.
Dr. King reminded us that progress is not automatic. It requires action, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to seeing the dignity in one another, even when it is difficult. His words call us to resist cynicism, reject hatred, and keep moving forward together, building communities where opportunity, fairness, and compassion are not ideals, but realities.
I had the opportunity to visit the King Memorial with my husband. Standing there was both beautiful and deeply emotional. The quiet strength of the memorial, the words carved in stone, and the weight of Dr. King’s legacy reminded me that one life, guided by purpose and love, can truly bend the arc of history.
I am grateful for Dr. King’s service, his sacrifice, and his enduring example. May we honor him not only with words today, but with our actions by serving others, standing for justice, and choosing unity over division.
Eboni Johnson, President, Oberlin City Council
Statement from Council President Eboni Johnson
Our community stands in mourning and solidarity with the students, families, and staff of Brown University following the heartbreaking violence that occurred on their campus.
As a city that is home to its own college population, we recognize the profound impact such a tragedy has not only on a campus, but on the entire surrounding community.
The loss of two young lives and the injuries suffered by others have sent shockwaves far beyond Providence. No college town ever expects to confront a moment like this, yet we all understand how deeply it touches the fabric of a place built on learning, growth, and opportunity.
I am grateful that the suspect is now in custody, bringing a measure of reassurance during an otherwise painful and uncertain time.
I want to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of Brown University’s Department of Public Safety and all responding agencies who acted swiftly and tirelessly to protect students and restore safety.
Today our entire community stands beside Brown University. We join you in grief, in reflection, and in the hope that healing will follow.
On behalf of the Council, I offer heartfelt condolences and unwavering support. We will continue to keep Brown University and the Providence community in our thoughts as you navigate the difficult days ahead.
