🏛️ Nonprofit Policy Watch

1️⃣ **Primary Elections Are June 9**
Early voting is open now through June 5. South Carolina's primaries are open, meaning voters can participate in either the Republican or Democratic primary (but not both), with no party registration required. Nonprofits can legally encourage voter participation and help communities engage in the democratic process through nonpartisan voter education and turnout efforts.

2️⃣ **State Budget Work Resumes June 10**
With redistricting behind them, lawmakers will return to Columbia after the primaries to finalize South Carolina's state budget. Key funding decisions for FY27 are still being negotiated.

3️⃣ **Federal Grant Rules Could Change**
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has proposed sweeping changes to the rules governing federal grants. Among the proposals: new restrictions on certain voter engagement activities, fundraising, conference attendance, DEI-related activities, and expanded authority for agencies to suspend or terminate grants. The proposal also includes changes that could benefit nonprofits, such as a 15% de minimis indirect cost rate and a higher single-audit threshold.

🚨 If your organization receives federal funding, this is a policy proposal worth watching closely.
