June 23 was Social Media Victims Remembrance Day—a day to remember the children and young people whose lives have been forever changed or tragically lost due to the harmful impacts of social media.

Hug your kids. Talk to them. Listen to them. Most importantly, model the behavior you want them to follow. Put the phone away, be present, and spend quality time together as a family. The moments you share offline can make a lasting difference.

Sometimes the best way to brighten your kids’ whole week is to slow down with them on a Sunday. One simple thing that we, parents, can do today is set aside 20–30 minutes for a “Sunday Reset Walk” — no phones, no rush, just talking about what they’re excited for, what’s on their mind, and what they’re hoping for in the week ahead. That little pocket of connection can carry them with confidence, calm, and joy all week long.

Student arrested for bringing loaded gun to Clover High School: York County Sheriff
By Ciara Lankford,

CLOVER, S.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A student has been charged with bringing a loaded handgun to Clover High School, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.
According to deputies, the incident occurred Friday, March 21, on the school’s campus located at 1625 E Highway 55, and led to the student being arrested and charged with multiple offenses.
The day began with the school administration notifying the York County Sheriff’s Office of the discovery of a firearm inside a student’s vehicle.
As deputies arrived at the scene, they said that they found a black handgun in a holster on the driver’s seat, along with several other items: a large knife, a box cutter, an empty bottle of Four Loko Pregame alcohol, a Smirnoff bottle cap, and two lighters.
The handgun, a H&K VP9 SK 9mm, was found with a magazine containing 10 rounds of ammunition, though no bullet was chambered, the sheriff’s office reported.
The student, whose name has not been released due to their juvenile status, claimed the gun did not belong to him. He told deputies that the firearm belonged to his father’s girlfriend, who owns a gun shop. According to the student, he had picked up his father and his girlfriend from a restaurant the night before and later discovered the gun under the driver’s seat.
The student admitted to moving the weapon and placing it between the seat and the console, stating that he had even told other students about it and had planned to take the gun home.
However, the situation escalated further when two other students, referred to as Witnesses #1 and Witness #2 in the police report, came forward. They revealed that the teen suspect had shown them the gun in the locker room. According to their accounts, the suspect had told one of the witnesses to feel his waistband, where he felt something “hard.”
Shortly after, the suspect allegedly went into the bathroom area of the locker room, pulled the gun from his waistband, and reportedly began showing it off. The witnesses reported the incident to their coach once the suspect left the locker room, the police report stated.
The 17-year-old student has been charged with unlawful possession of a handgun on school property and possession of a handgun under the age of 18. He was issued a juvenile petition and released into the custody of his father.
The YCSO said the handgun and a Camillus Titanium knife were collected as evidence, while the alcohol bottle, bottle cap, and lighters were disposed of.
The investigation remains open and ongoing.

Steve Jobs was famously known for not allowing his children to use iPads, expressing concerns about the potential impact of technology on their development.
Similarly, Bill Gates has acknowledged that technology is not a cure-all and stresses the importance of quality teaching.

Perhaps it’s time to reconsider how much technology we allow our children to use in schools?

As parents, we have the power to set a positive example when it comes to technology and our kids. Put away your phone at the dinner table, avoid eating in front of the TV, and turn off YouTube.

Our children are always watching and learning from what we do.

Start small—try having one evening a week without technology. It’s a simple way to connect with each other, model healthy habits, and encourage your kids to unplug as well.
