Chicago has more lead service lines than any other city and required them by law until 1986, when Congress banned the use of the brain-damaging metal to convey drinking water. But, of the $412 million Emanuel has borrowed from a federal-state loan fund during the past six years for water-related projects, NONE is going to replace lead pipes.
Instead, more than two-thirds of the money has been earmarked to replace 440 miles of aging water mains — work that helps prevent leaks but can increase the chances Chicagoans are exposed to lead in their drinking water.
The neurotoxic impact of lead have been known for millennia, particularly affecting emotion, cognition, and behavior. Strikingly, numerous studies have directly connected lead exposure to increased aggression, "anti-social" behavior, risk of arrest, and violence. Is it any surprise that, due to federal policy and intentional redlining, most lead exposure occurs in low income communities of people of color?!
The Peace Diet Program counteracts this chemical warfare by weaponizing nutrition to chelate the lead being ingested while repairing the damage caused by the pre-existing lead in the brain. Meals including various foods researched to relieve and remediate the stress caused by lead poisoning--Cilantro, Citrus, Garlic, etc.--along with a daily supplement of Moringa in their morning smoothie work together to protect our youth from the impacts of heavy metal poisoning.
