The Swedish tradition of St. Lucia Day calls for the oldest daughter of the household to serve her parents coffee and Lucia buns, while singing the Lucia song. She wears a wreath on her head with candles (or lights) and often leads a singing procession of other girls.
Start St. Lucia Day with a celebration at Daley Plaza as Lucia candidates represent Swedish-American organizations throughout the Chicago area! 11:30am-12:30pm, free admission.
The St. Lucia celebration continues in Andersonville, a Chicago neighborhood with Swedish roots, with a procession that starts at 4:45 pm at the Swedish American Museum. Traditional Swedish carols will be sung as the group walks up and down Clark Street. A program at the Swedish American Museum follows at 5 pm.
