BREAKING NEWS!!!
he IRONMAN Group CEO's letter expresses gratitude to the triathlon community for a special first year. It focuses on the future of the IRONMAN World Championship, acknowledging the 2023 split format between Kona and Nice due to COVID-related deferrals and logistical challenges in Kona. Extensive feedback from athletes, communities, and partners revealed a strong preference across all demographics for a unified World Championship race held in Kona. The data also showed the split format didn't achieve the goal of increasing female participation.
As a result, starting in 2026, the IRONMAN World Championship will return to a single day of racing in Kona, bringing men and women together. This reimagined event will accommodate nearly 3,000 athletes, feature enhanced and equal broadcast coverage, and implement innovations for fair competition. Nice, France will continue as a significant championship host, securing the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship events for 2026 and 2028 after hosting the 2025 Men's IRONMAN World Championship, with a potential option for 2030. The CEO emphasizes the athlete-first approach driving this decision, the commitment to listening to the community, and expresses thanks to both Kona and Nice for their ongoing partnerships in the sport of triathlon.
