Oprah Winfrey is an American talk show host, TV producer, actress, author and philanthropist. Best known for The Oprah Winfrey Show which ran in national syndication for 25 years, she was dubbed the Queen of All Media.

She was the one of the world's first black female billionaires, the richest African American of the 20th century and the greatest black philanthropist in US history.

In 1972 at the Democratic National Convention in Miami, Shirley Chisholm made history. The New York Congresswoman was placed into nomination for the President of the United States.

She collected 152 delegate votes becoming the first Black woman ever awarded presidential delegates at a major party national convention.

Bessie Coleman was born on January 26, 1892. She became the first African- American woman to hold a pilot license. Bessie earned her license in France in 1921, two years before her more famous contemporary Amelia Earhart. No one would train her to fly a plane in America, so she travelled to France to get her certification.

Defeating gender and racial prejudice, the then 29 year old became a symbol for millions of women of colour at a time when segregation and equal rights battles were raging across the country.
