Apple was pressured into giving people AI: Is iOS 18 a disaster waiting to happen?

Between expected innovations and ethical risks, Apple must find a delicate balance with artificial intelligence in its next mobile operating system.

In recent months, Apple has been the subject of numerous criticisms regarding its focus on consumer artificial intelligence. While its competitors like Google and Microsoft have already integrated AI functionalities into their ecosystems, the Cupertino company seems to be taking its time to approach this major technological shift.
Yet pressure is growing on Apple to finally offer its users access to conversational and generative AI. Many analysts believe that the Californian giant is falling significantly behind the enthusiasm generated by ChatGPT and other intelligent chatbots.

Apple can no longer ignore market expectations for consumer AI. Its users are demanding features similar to what already exists on Android or on the web,” explains David Hanson, analyst at Forrester Research.
